Abstract

Shipment performances of vendors such as Nokia and LG in the third quarter were weaker compared to the second quarter. The overall mobile phone industry did not really experience the shipment peak similar to third quarters in past years, while consumer market demand became more cautious. The reduction of mobile phone subsidies by Western European telecom operators was identified by mobile phone brands as one of the reasons for the relatively weak shipments of high-performance multimedia phones and Smartphones. On the other hand, mid-range to value-line voice-centric models and simple multimedia models became favored options among consumers, as they became more cautious in their spending.
